Your Dart River Safari experience has a magnificent backdrop. Snow capped mountains range over a glacial valley, blanketed by ancient forest, it's breathtaking.
The spectacular geography of the region creates a special atmosphere and unique setting that has made this area famous the world over. Queenstown and the Dart River area is also home to Lord of The Rings, filmed amid the mountains, lakes, rivers and forests which you encounter on this unique river trip leaving from Glenorchy, a 45 minute scenic drive from Queenstown.
Wilderness Safari:
- The most scenic Jet Boating in New Zealand. A 1½ hour ride along the Dart River amongst towering mountains and the refreshingly beautiful wilderness of the Mt Aspiring National Park.
- Then take a short and easy walk, of 20-40 minutes, through ancient forests, unchanged for 80 million years. Hear an informative and entertaining commentary on the area and its history – including the quest by early Maori for highly prized pounamu (greenstone).
- Board your back road coach for a journey to Paradise and beyond.
- This 40-50 minute trip allows the opportunity to explore a region filled with spectacular vistas which have inspired many talented film makers to bring their projects to this area, including the famous Lord of the Rings trilogy.

- Alternatively, for those who want to experience the longest Jet Boat ride in the region, the Jet Boat Safari offers a full 3 hours of classic jet boat action as your expert driver negotiates the shifting shallow braided channels of the magnificent glacier-fed Dart River.
- From the comfort of your fully equipped jet boat, you will discover the spectacular beauty that makes up the unforgettable Dart River scenery, as well as have the option of a short walk to hidden rock pools deep in Mt Aspiring National Park.
